Abstract:

AIM: Outline the outcomes associated with the first twelve months of a regional Outreach, Paediatric Ambulatory Rehabilitation Clinic providing Botox injections under sedation. METHOD: Identification of service development processes that support efficient service delivery in a family focussed clinic. This includes liaison with external service providers, referral Paediatric hospital and other regional hospitals. Retrospective audit and review of service provision, sedation outcomes and care giver satisfaction providing summation data to enhance development of the service. Summation of the results of this data will provide a framework for ongoing service development,  in line with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards for Consumer involvement, medication safety and Patient ID & procedure matching.
RESULTS: Family focus / Less disruption / Parents accompany child throughout procedure. / Services delivered closer to families’ location / Efficiencies in service delivery and throughput Early discharge / Improved service liaison with all providers / Skill development for nursing and medical staff / Advantages of sedation protocols / Nil adverse or sentinel events reported / Decreased burden on Operating Theatres schedules and resources / Quicker recovery and discharge
CONCLUSION: Families and staff have, anecdotally, reported improvements in the quality of service provided by the clinic. Data collected through the audits, sedation reviews and family caregiver surveys has further highlighted areas of success and identified key planning strategies to further develop the service.
