Title: Aboriginal-informed Healthy Lifestyle Program- WA Pilot Project
Presenter Bio:
Dr Yvonne Anderson
Associate Professor Community Child Health CAHS, Paediatrician
Dr Yvonne Anderson, Paediatrician, has undertaken clinical research with Child and Adolescent Health Service, Curtin University, Telethon Kids Institute and the University of Auckland. She has a special interest in paediatric endocrinology, including family-centred solutions for weight issues and diabetes. With a focus on improving healthcare services, health systems change, and addressing health inequality.
She has spent the past decade leading a team working in Aotearoa New Zealand with community and Māori collaborators to create a community-based healthy weight program. The teams research has demonstrated weight reduction at 2 years. Improvements in Quality of life, water intake and health knowledge persisted to five years. This program has since been implemented throughout the Tananaki region (NZ).
More recently her team have been working to understand the needs of the community in Perth, to develop a pilot healthy weight service (the Aboriginal-informed Healthy Lifestyles Program) to roll out in East Metropolitan Health Service.
