The world over, millions of children with disabilities can’t get access to adequate wheelchairs—and the impact on their quality of life is profound.

Many are forced to live on the earthen floor of huts or wait to be carried, making them more vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and armed conflict, as well as experiencing lower educational attainment and higher rates of poverty.

Wheelchairs for Kids is a volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation providing the transformative gift of mobility to children in impoverished and under resourced communities both in Australia and around the globe.

Brother Thomas Oliver Pickett AM.

2025 Senior Australian of the Year

Brother Thomas Oliver (Olly) Pickett AM played a key role in the foundation of Wheelchairs For Kids in 1996, which was established to provide adjustable wheelchairs and occupational therapy expertise for children in developing countries, free of charge. Since then, more than 60,000 custom-built wheelchairs have been gifted to children in over 80 countries.

Brother Olly has spearheaded the development of our innovative, low-cost wheelchairs design to World Health Organization standards. The wheelchairs are adjustable such they that can ‘grow’ as the children do – a world first.

For more than 25 continuous years at Wheelchairs For Kids Australia, Brother Olly’s life-changing community service has ignited a ripple effect of kindness and generosity.

Your registration fee will be donated to Wheelchair for Kids.
