Applying for Credentialing
NEW APPLICATIONS
Congratulations
You have taken the first step towards gaining personal recognition in your specialty area of nursing as a Specialist Credentialed Nurse.
Please note, you do not have to be a member of ACCYPN to apply for credentialing, but you do need to be eligible to apply and be working in the specialty.
The Professional Credentialing Application Guidelines are designed to assist you with completing the application process. It is very important that you read this document first and then refer back to it as you progress through the application process.
You need to address all the criteria and upload all the necessary documentation to complete your application.
Credentialing Criteria
To meet the requirements and standards for a Specialist Nurse Credential, applicants must provide evidence of the following :
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1), General with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Qualifications that meet the criteria set for the relevant specialty.
- Working a minimum of 12 weeks full time equivalent over the preceding 12 months or the equivalent length of experience over the preceding 2 years, or over the preceding 3 years in the area of specialty.
Note: A specialty nursing organisation may choose to set a level of hours greater than the minimum. Please check with your specialty. - Continuing professional education, and practice development related activities in the previous 12 months.
- Support from two referees who are familiar with the applicant’s practice.
- You will need to provide all information and upload documents as requested.
- Additional requirements may be set for the specialty by the relevant organisation. Please check with your specialty organisation (for example, a copy of an up to date CV).

4. Please have:
- any documents necessary copied and certified ready to upload.
IMPORTANT !! Submission of supporting documents
Qualifications:
Evidence of your claims will be required as part of the application process. Certified copies of qualifications MUST be uploaded as evidence. (i.e. Award and Transcript), or your application cannot be finalised.
Change of name:
You may be required to provide supporting documentation for having changed your name. Please ensure you provide certified evidence e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate, evidence of divorce.
Unless otherwise stated, the preferred approach is to scan the original document and upload at the required places during the online application process. Original documents are to be photocopied and must be certified by one of the following:
- A Justice of the Peace (JP),
- A health professional registered with AHPRA,
- A practising legal professional,
- An accountant,
- Other responsible professional such as minister of religion, teacher, a serving police officer, a senior public servant.
The signatory should use the following words:
I certify that this appears to be a true copy of the document produced to me on <date>.
Signature
Name
Qualification (e.g. JP, Pharmacist)
Registration Number or equivalent
The person certifying the document is stating their opinion that the document is a true copy, not that the original document is authentic. Certifying a copy does not in any way ‘authenticate’ either the copy or the original document.
It is an applicant’s responsibility to understand the eligibility requirements of the credential to which the applicant is applying.
