CHAIRPERSON’S LETTER

Dear Members

Welcome to the March 2023 issue of the College Communique. Exciting things are ahead with our ACCYPN conference nearly upon us. Well September! but time seems to fly by and we are looking forward to seeing so many of you face-to-face. As you are no doubt aware our BOD are solely volunteers and work tirelessly in their own time (and own cost) behind the scenes to bring you the many benefits we all as members enjoy.

The Webinars are an example of the hard work by Jacquie and the team who bring you the latest evidence-based practice and translation of research into practice opportunities and knowledge. These timely CPD and educational activities work for the benefit of our members to keep you abreast of the latest innovative and time-tested care for children and young people.

We know that times are indeed difficult as we work to continue the College activities including securing the future of Credentialing for Nurses and the College Journal. Credentialling can offer increased job security and recognition for your area of clinical expertise and the journal provides you with the opportunity to publish an article, write an editorial and of course read about the inspirational work of RN and NP working in schools, acute care, community care and other services caring for children, young people and their families.

The Directors act as representatives for all members of the College, and I invite you to contact us any time you have feedback, or an issue you would like to raise – email info@accypn.org.au . We look forward to continuing to represent you in professional nursing issues and advocacy for children and young people’s health throughout 2023 and beyond.

ACCYPN provides a valuable opportunity for you to connect with us, colleagues and peers through social media – join us on Facebook and Instagram – to share content, informative links and have ‘conversations’ about things that matter to you.

We look forward to seeing you at the Conference.

Warm regards,

Yvonne Parry

Chairperson, Board of Directors

ACCYPN

The Conference Committee want to let you all know that the ACCYPN Conference is now beginning to take shape.

Registration is now open so get in early to benefit from the Super Early Bird registration rates. Prior to this you can register your Expression of Interest to receive Conference updates.

There is also the opportunity for a group discount on five (5) or more registrations, please contact the Conference Managers to discuss this and organise the group discount via email at events@cre8itevents.com.au

The College is very excited to welcome everyone back to a face-to-face format for this Conference.  The last two years has been different and stressful for many health care workers and the population around the world.  With our last Conference having to be fully virtual, we missed the opportunities to meet with old friends and make new ones so let’s reconnect, revisit and relax and see what Darwin and the Northern Territory has to offer.

See you in Darwin!

Jacquie Burton

Conference Chairperson

ACCYPN are selling ‘A Time to Remember’ via our website on behalf of the Author Janet H Henry.

‘A Time to Remember’ is the first comprehensive descriptive account of the history of the Infant Welfare/Child Health Service in Queensland, Australia.  It traces the development of the service from 1918 to 1991.  It tells the story of a service born out of a world-wide concern about high infant and maternal mortality.  The journey began with a conference in France in 1905, following which several new initiatives emerged around the world.  It was during this time that the work of Sir Truby King (New Zealand) became Known.  Australia was interested in his teachings and “baby clinics” began opening. It was not until March 1918 that the first clinic opened in Brisbane in Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

The author has carefully researched and presented this compelling story of service that grew from humble beginnings to become one of the largest preventive health networks for families in the state.  It elevates the discipline of child health nursing and the courage, survival in the face of adversity, sacrifice, and above all of determination and success in taking services to mothers, babies and families in some of the most remote areas of the state.  The book includes a series of engaging and touching stories of child health nurses, past and present, and photographs that provide a personal touch to the valuable historical content.

Cost – $40.00 (includes postage and handling within Australia)
If you would like to purchase more than one book or reside outside of Australia, please email the ACCYPN Secretariat – info@accypn.org.au
