CHAIRPERSON’S LETTER

Dear Members

Welcome to the December edition of Communiqué for 2019.

2019 Seems to have simply flown by, with lots of behind the scenes work continuing on College activities including continued support of the Credentialing for Children and Young People’s  Nurses and proceeding with the new College Journal with the first publication in 2020.

We are now well on the way with planning for the Conference in October in Darwin at the Darwin Hilton, I urge all members to mark their diaries with the dates 2 -4 September 2020.  If you haven’t been to Darwin before you may want to arrive a few days early or stay on after the Conference.  Call for Abstracts open on 20 January 2020.

As you may be aware we recently held the AGM via Video Conference with the tabling of the ACCYPN Annual Report which you can read more here http://www.accypn.org.au/about-us/ This year we farewelled out-going Directors Leanne Gough (WA) & Anne Youles (QLD) and thank them all for their service to ACCYPN and the Board. View the profile of current Board members here https://www.accypn.org.au/members-area/governance-information/board/ The Directors act as representatives for all members of the College, and I invite you to contact us any time you have feedback, or an issue you would like to raise – email info@accypn.org.au.

We look forward to continuing to represent you in professional nursing issues and advocacy for children and young people’s health throughout 2020.

On behalf of the Board, I wish you and your families and friends a joyous and safe Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Regards
Catherine Marron

WA CHAPTER REPORT

The WA Chapter held our final education event on Saturday 2nd November at Maylands Peninsula Golf Course. The Clinical Breakfast topic was titled  “Newly diagnosed diabetic children; a new model of care.” The presenters were  Frances Leclercq, Adele Connor and Kelly West all from the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at PCH.

Once again we say a heartfelt thanks  to our two sponsors, Aspen and Medtronic. Without the continuing support of sponsors, we would not be able to host such interesting and varied clinical events for such a reasonable cost to members and guests. NATIONAL EARLY YEARS SUMMIT 2020

All children in Australia deserve the opportunity to reach their potential and thrive, to live lives that are happy, in which they can fully participate, and positively contribute to our community.

For a variety of reasons beyond the control of children and their families, too many miss out on realising their potential.

We know that the best time to help a child reach their potential is in their first 1000 days of life.

The need for us to do more in this precious window of time is clear. What is less clear is how we go about it.

The National Early Years Summit 2020 will begin a ten-year endeavour by bringing those who work on the front line with children together with academics, government policy makers, parents, and others.

The Summit will include building on a knowledge of what works for kids, highlighting what information we lack, and how we can acquire it. It will also include thought and advocacy on how best to apply that knowledge to get the best results for our children with the limited resources available to governments, organisations, and families.

WAIMH 2020 – BRISBANE

The Congress theme, ‘Creating stories in Infant Mental Health: research, recovery and regeneration’, invites you to create stories that will help infants thrive to live compassionate, creative and productive lives, and to share those stories with the wider Infant Mental Health community from around the world.
