 Abstract

Aim

This presentation will outline the development of an innovative model of liaison within a community child health service (CHS) in Brisbane, Queensland. The aim of this work was to review liaison more broadly within the CHS and recommend a consistent model for service liaison to support the recently implemented Model of Care.

Method

This study was conducted as a process redesign. Process redesign aims to engage all clinicians and stakeholders, including consumers, to reshape services. This involved mapping the existing liaison process; consultation and benchmarking; and a review of literature.

Results

Over 12 months a Hub and Spokes model of liaison was implemented. Data collection involved surveys of key stakeholders and service data from the liaison process. The findings were used to inform the developing model.

Conclusions

While there is no unequivocal evidence that liaison services directly account for improved healthcare outcomes it does improve communication and increases the knowledge and confidence of stakeholders to work together. Ongoing work will continue to build evidence for liaison as an important and legitimate part of healthcare service delivery.
