CHAIRPERSON’S LETTER

Dear Members
Welcome to the December edition of Communique.
2020 has been an extraordinary year for all, particularly for nurses and our healthcare colleagues. No one could have foreseen that the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife would be so unforgettable. As the year draws to a close, we look forward to a brighter future in 2021.  Even so, this year the College has had some fabulous opportunities, including the successful professional development webinar series and the launch of the Journal of Children and Young People’s Health. Although our bi-annual Conference this year was postponed, planning has continued to deliver the event in September 2021 in Darwin, Northern Territory.
From this year’s professional development webinars, we have been able to expand the library of on-line learning available on the Knowledge Centre Website with the webinar recordings. Members and non-members have access to Learning on Demand including the conference recordings and the complete library of on-line learning. As we plan for our webinar series for 2021, we are very keen to hear from you what topics you are interested in so we can provide topical and relevant content. Please email us at info@accypn.org.au with your ideas and suggestions.
As you may be aware the AGM was held during the conference with the tabling of the ACCYPN Annual Report which you can read more here. We welcome Pam O’Nions to the Board as the new Company Secretary. View the profile of current Board members here. The Directors act as representatives for all members of the College, and I invite you to contact us any time you have feedback, or an issue you would like to raise – email info@accypn.org.au. We look forward to continuing to represent you in professional nursing issues and advocacy for children and young people’s health throughout 2021.
On behalf of the Board, I wish you and your families and friends a joyous and safe Christmas and holiday season, and a bright and Happy New Year!
Regards
Catherine Marron

ACCYPN 2021 CONFERENCE
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Super Early Bird Registration:  NOW OPEN

We are pleased to advise registration is now open for the Conference.  The Conference Committee is currently considering making the Conference Hybrid – more information will be made available soon.  A hybrid conference combines a “live” in-person event with a “virtual” online component.

Due to the 2020 Conference Postponement, we have decided to reflect on 2020 the International Year of the Nurse & Midwife. The College wishes to celebrate and reflect on the work that Nurses and Midwives do and the impact that we have on the health and well-being of Children and Young People.

On behalf of the Conference Committee and the ACCYPN Board of Directors, I extend our warmest invitation to you to attend. We are planning a Conference that reflects the impact and the diversity that nursing and midwifery brings along with the aim of providing you with a rewarding experience, both professionally and socially. QUEENSLAND HEALTH – NEW IMMUNISATION WEBSITE

We’re pleased to let you know that Queensland Health recently launched its new Vaccination Matters website. This user-friendly site provides the latest immunisation resources for Queenslanders of all ages.

The site features the Immunisation Planner Tool that allows Queenslanders to quickly generate a personalised immunisation schedule. The schedule helps:

  • parents keep track of their children’s vaccination dates, no matter what their age
  • adults to keep up to date with vaccinations
  • older Queenslanders know what vaccines they need

VacciDate app to be phased out!

Over the next 7 months the VacciDate app will be phased out.

From December 2020, the VacciDate app will no longer be available for download, but existing users can continue to save their information until 30 June 2021.

All current users will be notified of these changes, receive ongoing reminders and offered alternative ways to track their immunisation information.

With the VacciDate app phasing out over the coming months, the new Vaccination Matters website’s Immunisation Planner will help Queenslanders to track their vaccination information.

For those who are not sure of the vaccinations they’ve had, they can:

  • go online via your MyGov account or through the Medicare Plus app to view your Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) immunisation history statement
  • ask your doctor or immunisation provider to print your AIR immunisation history statement
  • call the AIR on 1800 653 809 and ask them to send your immunisation history statement to you. This can take up to 14 days to arrive in the post

Children and older Queenslanders may also receive immunisation reminders through Queensland Health initiatives, such as Immunise to 95, Bubba Jabs on Time, and Immunise Seniors.

AIR can record any vaccinations given since 1 January 1996.

If you have any questions about the website and VacciDate app, please email campaigns@health.qld.gov.au
