Abstract

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is widely referenced as the most common, life-shortening disease affecting young Australians today. However, in recent years, medical research and treatments have advanced and CF patients are now living longer than ever before. Join us to learn about CF and find out the latest treatments and advances in CF care. You will learn about CF, the challenges CF patients and families face today and what is around the corner.

Presenter BIO:

Nicola Reardon, Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Nurse Consultant, The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne

Nicola commenced at The Royal Children’s Hospital in 2000 and prior to studying nursing she had studied early childhood development, working in kindergartens, day care centres and as a nanny.

Beginning her paediatric nursing career in the Specialty Medicine Unit, Nicola worked there for several years, moving into a Clinical Nurse Specialist role and then as an Associate Nurse Manager. Nicola also worked for the Liver Transplant Service as a Coordinator.

In 2007 Nicola moved to the Cystic Fibrosis team as a Clinical Nurse Consultant where she continues to work. She has also worked as part of the Paediatric Lung

Transplant Team as the Transplant Assessment Coordinator. Nicola’s role is dynamic and diverse, covering all aspects of supporting patients and families through their CF journey, including educating parents at diagnosis and working with young people to optimise their health independence and transition to adult care.
